LIBRARY BOOKS

La Salle Elementary Schools believe that the most important gifts we can give children is the love of reading. We strive to foster a life-long love of reading and learning that supports classroom reading instruction. Each week, students are encouraged to explore a wide variety of print resources in the library, including fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, newspaper, reference books, and the internet. With the support of the school librarians and teachers, we strive to make sure books fit student interests and reading levels.

Library hours are from 8:00am to 3:00pm at Northwest and 7:30am to 3:00pm at Lincoln. Each classroom has a set time each week, but there are available times throughout the day to return a book early and check out another. Renewals are allowed if the book is not on reserve. Students in PreK-3rd grade are allowed to check out one book per week, while 4th-8th graders are allowed to check out 2 books per week.  If you have an overdue book it must be returned before a new book can be checked out

The school district has the right to determine whether a book is inappropriate for a student to read related to content. At Lincoln Jr. High, a separate section of the library will have a designation of books with mature content that students will need parental approval to be checked out. Please sign the permission agreement in the registration packet to give your child approval. However, we provide the opportunity for parents to challenge a book in a library for their students. Please see the building principal for this process.

LIBRARY FEES

Students are strongly encouraged to read books provided in our libraries. The responsibility of checking out and returning books is the student. Damaged or unreturned books will result in the charging of the replacement cost for that book. This fee must be paid prior to additional books being checked out and allowed to take home. Students at Northwest will be allowed to check out the books, but they must be kept in the classroom. In the event a student does not pay the fine, they will succumb to the guidelines specified under F. Collection Policy for Bills Unpaid.
